How to build a social media following on your new Facebook page

If you have established company, Start Up or if you are a freelancer offering your services, internet offers you a wide range of possibilities for a effective promotion. Even large and serious companies less and less use traditional forms of marketing , switching to internet marketing to win a new consumers on social networks.

When talking about promoting your business or services on social networks, Facebook page is a must have! Facebook is the largest and still most popular social media network. Over a billion and a half people have it, and over a billion of them use it on a daily basis. This should be enough for you to start building up your Facebook fan page. Possibilities for good promotion are countless. And the good news is that you don’t have to spend a cent for it.

Here are a few ideas on how to create a social media following on Facebook with no or little budget:

Set up strategy and stay consistent 

You’ve created your page and invited your friends to like it. So now you have some amount of followers that need to be engaged. And surely you will need more followers so that you can achieve your goals of promotion and selling your product/services. First thing first, you will have to take a pen and paper and write down your goals and how you plan to achieve them. Set up strategy! Set up realistic goals! Where do you see your business in one month, in one year? What steps will you take to achieve your goals? What amount of time will you have to invest in good promotion?

Next important thing is that you need to stay consistent. At first growth will probably be slow and it may feel like you’re wasting your time. It can take up to few weeks or even a few months to see results. But if you are sticking to your strategy, effort will eventually show results. Consistency is a key ingredient to a success.

Engage your fans with quality content

Make sure that you are posting quality information on your page that your fans can interact with. Visual and timely updates will increase virality of your page and potentially attract new followers. Post on regular basis, at least 3 times a week (remember that consistency is the key).  But don’t overwhelm your page or you are at risk of losing precious followers. Everyone counts. When someone likes or shares your content, your audience is organically broaden. That is the best, cost free way of attracting new followers.

Get fans to tag photos

Encourage your fans to tag themselves or friends in your photos. This way your content is pushed out into their walls and News Feeds. What a way for valuable and free exposure! For example, if you are running traveling agency, you can ask your followers to tag their friends in your photo- “Which of your friends would you like to take with you to Paris this fall?”

Engage with other pages in your niche

Regularly leave comments on other pages or in groups associated with your business/service. Comment on other people’s posts and comments. Your language needs to be professional, polite and thoughtful.  Remember to post from your page, instead of your personal profile. This way you will attract some of the traffic to your page and win new followers.

Use Hashtags 

Hashtags are not only reserved for Twitter. If you use them correctly, they will be valuable asset for your Facebook posts. Use them only when they make sense and if they are relevant. This way other people can filter conversations on Facebook and find content they are looking for. Hey, they may find your page and engage with it!

Include links to your social presence on your website

This applies for all of your social media networks. Create buttons on your website, so that people can easily find you and follow you. The more exposure you give yourself, the better.

Check out your competition

Check from time to time what are your competitors doing and how are they performing. This way you will get some valuable information about your targeted market. Also, you can get ideas on how to continue building up your Facebook page, and overall web presence. Don’t be surprised if you end up stealing some of their customers.
